The Cruise Tour of Elephanta Cave India offers a fascinating opportunity to learn about Lord Shiva, a prominent Hindu diety. Different statues dating back to the 4th-5th centuries BC can be found in the caves, which are situated on Elephant Island, about 10km and hour by boat from the Gateway of India.
The Portuguese named the Island ‘Elephanta’ after the statue of an elephant near the landing site. The caves house rock-cut temples dating back to the 5th century. Elephanta Island has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 to preserve the artwork.
The Elephanta caves complex is a collection of shrines, courtyards, inner cells, great halls, and porticoes arranged in the magnificent symmetry of Indian rock-cut architecture and filled with exquisite stone sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses.
There are about 120 steps to climb but it’s definitely worth a visit! For those who do not wish to climb, there are porter chairs for a small cost at the start of the tour.
So come you are invited to feel the divinity & the tranquility of the home of Lord Shiva through our Cruise excursion of Elephanta Cave India.
