To some, the Dharavi slum is the largest “slum” in Asia, with nearly a million people living there. But that is certainly not all.
Dharavi is a city within a city. Hospitals, hotels, schools, cinemas, and mobile galleries, everything can be found there. During the day, the place is bustling with various sounds and activities that take place: Sewing, embroidery, tailoring, readymade garment industries, bakeries, dyeing factories, recycling of plastics, soap factories, block printers, and many other businesses and residences spread across 550 acres and with an economy estimated to be worth over US$650 million!
The Mumbai Dharavi Slum Tour is not a “slum watching tour” where you see the poor people and their poverty, but it is a tour of the small industries and factories that shows you their qualities, which are: unlimited energy, diligence, determination, and people’s spirit of optimism! These are some of the many qualities that leave an impression on our hearts, minds, and souls.
Our Mumbai Dharavi Slum tour guide, will explain the entire workings of the slums and help you interact with the locals there, will always accompany you.
We support the noble cause for the people living in the Dharavi slums with our charity arm known as ‘Mumbai Moments Love & Care’ by helping them all in every possible way including food kits, notebooks, pens & pencils, school bags, tuition fees for underprivileged and much more.

FAQ
1) Where is Dharavi?
Dharavi is located between Mahim and Sion at the northern tip of South Mumbai, just before the suburbs of Bandra and Kurla. It is sandwiched between the Western and Central Railway lines, approximately 10 km south of the International Airport and 18 km north of Colaba, the main tourist hub.
2)- Is Dharavi safe to visit?
Dharavi is generally safe to visit, and the areas covered on the tour have a strong community presence. However, we recommend avoiding carrying valuables for security purposes. With a population of nearly one million within 0.7 square miles, there’s also a robust police presence.
In narrow alleys, be cautious of low roofs, open drains, and occasional exposed electrical wires. Some factories may have fumes, so those sensitive to such environments should take necessary precautions.
3) What about hygiene conditions?
Due to the dense population and limited infrastructure, certain areas may be unclean or have unpleasant smells. We advise wearing covered shoes, especially during the monsoon season.
4) What clothing is appropriate for the Dharavi Slum Tour?
Wear comfortable, covered shoes as some areas can be dirty or muddy, particularly during monsoon months (June to mid-September). Please dress modestly, avoiding low-cut tops, short shorts, or attire that may offend local residents.
5) What kind of Mumbai Dharavi Slum Tour do you provide?
We have two types of Dharavi Slum Tours - Private Dharavi Slum tour and Dharavi Slum Cruise Excursion.
