To call this tour a Slum Tour would not be entirely correct, because we will not only be visiting the slums but the industries in the slums and seeing how hard the people work with endless enthusiasm and zeal. It is indeed a real and very special Mumbai tour.
To some, the Dharavi slum is the largest “slum” in Asia, with nearly a million people living there. But that is certainly not all.
Dharavi is a city within a city. Hospitals, hotels, schools, cinemas, and mobile galleries, everything can be found there. During the day, the place is bustling with various sounds and activities that take place: sewing, embroidery, tailoring, readymade garment industries, bakeries, dyeing factories, recycling of plastics, soap factories, block printers, and many other businesses and residences spread across 550 acres and with an economy estimated to be worth over US$650 million!
The Mumbai Dharavi Slum Tour is not a “slum watching tour” where you see the poor people and their poverty, but it is a tour of the small industries and factories that shows you their qualities, which are: unlimited energy, diligence, determination, and people’s spirit of optimism!
